Tigh na' Caoiraich holiday cottage is in Tomdoun, 16 miles from the sea on a single track, no through road. Tomdoun is a hamlet consisting of a former hotel,  two cottages, and a small chapel.
We are 35 miles north-west of Fort William, ½ hour to Fort Augustus, which is situated at the southern end of Loch Ness and about an hour from the Isle of Skye.
There are many things to enjoy in the local area including walking, climbing Munros, cycling, fishing and horse-riding.
The cottage is very close to Loch Ness with associated monster spotting and boat trips.
There are also several castles and Scottish Heritage sites to visit. Castles: Castle Urquhart, Eilean Donan, Brodie Castle, Inverlochy Castle.
Local National Trust for Scotland sites include: Glenfinnan Monument, Culloden, Falls of Glomach.
Historic Scotland sites nearby include: Fort George, Bridge of Oich suspension bridge, Beauly Priory.
There are numerous woodland and forest walks in national trust nature reserves.

There is a small shop 7 miles away.
Shopping in Fort William (45 minute drive)
Large ‘Morrissons’, ‘Tesco Metro’, and most other shops including a butcher, outdoor clothing and cafés.
Shopping in Fort Augustus (20 minute drive) Excellent butcher Medium sized ‘Spar’ with olde world sweet shop! Cafes and gift shop.

Directions to Tigh na' Caoiraich
Take the A82 north towards Inverness.
Continue on this road through Spean Bridge, until you come to Invergarry.
At this junction turn left through Invergarry village onto the A87 towards Kyle of Lochalsh.
Stay on this road for approx. 4 miles and take the left hand turn to Tomdoun and Kinlochourn.
The cottage is 6 miles along this road, on the left just past the old Tomdoun Hotel, by a telephone box. |
